Celebrating Partnerships: The Evolution of DT Consulting and Indegene

The world recently celebrated the International Day of Friendship, a day – proclaimed by the United Nations – that’s dedicated to recognizing the importance of friendships and partnerships in our lives.

At DT Consulting, this celebration holds special significance as we reflect on the strong, evolving relationship with Indegene and our own international friendships with new Indegene subsidiaries Cult Health in New York and Trilogy Medical Writing & Consulting, which has operations in Germany, the UK, and the US.

We spoke to Dennis van Rooij, DT’s Co-Founder and Managing Partner, about friendship, collaboration, and strengthening bonds.

How has DT’s partnership with Indegene evolved over the years?

Our journey with Indegene began with a strategic acquisition in 2019, following several years of rapid growth as DT Associate.

Following our rebranding to DT Consulting, our partnership with Indegene has evolved into a dynamic synergy. This collaboration has significantly enhanced our consulting capabilities and expanded our client portfolio to include nearly every major global pharmaceutical company.

What makes this relationship special is the shared vision and mutual respect among the DT founders and the Indegene executive leadership team, and this has underpinned our collaboration ever since our first pre-acquisition meetings in Princeton and Bangalore. Together, we have scaled DT Consulting from a boutique strategy consulting firm to a robust team of over 90 employees, spanning the UK, Europe, the US, and India. In the process, we have driven incremental revenue and created synergies with the parent business.

How do you see the role of friendship and mutual respect in light of your new M&A responsibilities?

Since 2023, the roles of DT’s founders have shifted, with me taking a leadership role for Indegene in Europe, which now also includes an M&A focus for finding companies to partners with. As we have been acquired ourselves, I approach this new responsibility knowing how important strong relationships and mutual respect are to the success of mergers and acquisitions. The life sciences industry is competitive and highly connected, so it’s relationships built on trust and mutual respect that drive successful collaboration and M&A deals. Such friendships can then foster open communication, ease the transition process, and create a strong foundation for long-term collaboration. Our merger with Indegene is a testament to how these values can lead to exceptional outcomes as we continue to innovate and provide strategic advice on digital transformation and customer experience.

Can you tell us what role collaboration and trust played in some of DT’s recent successful projects?

One example is our recent initiative to streamline digital transformation across clinical, medical, and commercial operations for a major biotech company. This project required close coordination between DT Consulting and all the different business units across the Indegene group, leveraging the diverse expertise within our global organization of over 5,500 employees serving clients in over 80 markets. The trust and collaborative spirit among the teams enabled us to deliver a comprehensive solution that exceeded client expectations, demonstrating the power of our combined efforts as ‘One-Indegene’.

What about when it comes to building strong teams – what is the importance of friendship and camaraderie there?

Fostering a sense of friendship and camaraderie within our organization is essential to our overall success and innovation. At DT Consulting, we believe that strong interpersonal relationships among team members lead to higher levels of engagement, creativity, and productivity. By promoting a culture of camaraderie, we create an environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to contribute their best. This culture has been instrumental in driving our growth and achieving significant milestones, including our successful IPO in Mumbai in May 2024. The IPO event, and subsequent celebrations, was a great example of where different teams in locations like Princeton, New York, London, Frankfurt, and Bangalore came together to celebrate this historic company moment.

Finally, how does the future look for DT’s partnerships?

Looking ahead, the future of our partnerships is bright. We are committed to continuing to strengthen these bonds by focusing on collaboration, innovation, and mutual respect. By maintaining a strong foundation of friendship and trust, we will navigate the complexities of the life sciences sector and achieve new heights together.

As we celebrate the International Day of Friendship, I reaffirm our dedication to nurturing these relationships and driving success through strong partnerships. Notably, Indegene remains a strongly founder-led organization, with the original five founders still actively involved. In addition to the original founders, other founders from companies that Indegene has acquired have also remained with the organization. This implies successful integration and a persistent culture of friendship, entrepreneurship, and innovation that drives our collective success.

The evolution of our acquisition by Indegene, the role of friendship in a pre- and post-M&A world, and the importance of collaboration and trust are all integral to our journey. As we continue to build strong teams and foster a culture of camaraderie, we look forward to a future filled with innovation and shared success.
